AE4JC VHF+ — Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026.

This covers the AE4JC VHF+ Android app (RTL-SDR scanner, package com.ae4jc.vhfscanner.classic) specifically — not this website. For the site’s own privacy policy, see Privacy Policy.

The short version

This app collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. It has no account system, no analytics, no ads, and no server of its own. Everything it does happens on your phone, talking only to hardware you’ve connected to it.

What the app accesses, and why

USB (your RTL-SDR dongle). The app reads radio signals from a USB RTL-SDR device through a separate driver app. This is how it scans and plays audio — no data leaves your device for this.

Bluetooth (optional, only if you pair an IC-705). If you choose to pair an Icom IC-705 radio, the app uses Bluetooth to send frequency, duplex, and tone settings you’ve confirmed — directly to your own radio. Nothing is sent anywhere else, and this only happens if you pair a radio and tap Program.

Location (optional, off by default). The app can use your phone’s coarse (not precise GPS) location for one purpose only: when two or more repeaters share the same frequency in an imported RepeaterBook export, your approximate location helps pick the right one by distance. This is off until you turn it on in the app’s settings, and your location is never transmitted anywhere — it’s compared against data already stored on your phone.

Internet permission, declared but not used for data transfer. Android requires this permission for the app to talk to its own RTL-SDR driver component on the same device (localhost only). The app makes no requests to any remote server — not for updates, not for repeater data, not for anything.

Data you import yourself

If you import a RepeaterBook CSV/GPX export or similar file, that file is read from storage you choose and stays on your device. It’s never uploaded anywhere.

Children’s Privacy

This app isn’t directed at children, and it doesn’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13 — nor does it collect data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to This Policy

If what this app accesses or how it’s used ever changes, this page gets updated and the date at the top will reflect it.
